A3 documents are not a magic solution; their value comes from critical thinking, collaboration, and following the PDCA process.

  • A3 Report is a one-page document used to tell a story of how a problem or situation was improved through the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) process.
  • The A3 size paper, 297mm by 420mm, gives the report its name, but the power lies in the concise representation of information on a single page.
  • A3 reports can be used for various purposes, including problem-solving, justifying capital expenditures, project planning, and annual planning.
  • A typical A3 report includes sections for identifying the theme, describing the current state, root cause analysis, action plans, and checking the results, with flexibility in the layout. Parent and child A3s can break down complex situations into manageable sub-projects.
