Skill:  Create and use a Value Stream Map (from observing the flow in a site/organization) and other concepts learned (OEE, bottlenecks, constraints) to explain the problem with overproduction and the importance of identifying and focusing on the constraint.  Identify the constraint and the difference between a bottleneck and a constraint.

 

Typical coachee:  Supply Chain Management leader, Focused Improvement Leader, Sponsor.

 

Knowledge needed:  "Why Bottlenecks and Constraints Matter", "Overall Equipment Effectiveness", "Why Cycle Times Matter to Meet Takt Time and Lead Time", "Value Stream Mapping".

Skill:  Lead the team to capture the TIMWOODS opportunities identified on the floor (and/or from the Strategic Planning process) into the Suggestion/Opportunity System, prioritizing them, and then incorporating them into deployment plans. 

 

Typical coachee:  Focused Improvement Leader, Sponsor, or Champion.  

 

Knowledge needed:  "A3 Overview", "How to Prioritize Multiple Projects and Initiatives".

Optional Skill:  If applicable, lead a team through a Quick Changeover project to improve a changeover process. 

  

Typical coachee:  Leader or Member of Supply Chain Management, Focused Improvement, Machine Reliability, Autonomous Maintenance, or Commercial Excellence.

 

Knowledge needed:  "How to Implement Quick Changeover (SMED)", "How to Lead a Kaizen Event".

Skill:  Explain to a team how to come up with potential solutions, how to evaluate them based on impact/effort, how to multi-vote, and how to develop an action plan for the selected solution.  And be able to facilitate through it.

 

Ideally for:  Team Problem-Solver, or any Leader.

 

Lessons to focus on in preparation:  "How to Prioritize Multiple Projects and Initiatives",  "How Poka-Yoke Prevents Mistakes and Defects".

Skill:  Explain to a team what the opportunity is with reducing excess inventory and when customers want a shorter lead time.  Would include updating and using the current state Value Stream Map to do so.

 

Typical coachee:  Leader or Member of Supply Chain Management, Commercial Excellence, Cost Deployment or Focused Improvement.  Or also Champion or Sponsor.  

 

Knowledge needed:  "Why Cycle Times Matter to Meet Takt Time and Lead Times", "The 8 Wastes", "What is Flow and the Benefits of Reducing Batch Sizes".

Skill:  Identify opportunities to use Just-in-Time (JIT) to reduce lead time or inventory, and lead a team to create an action plan.  Would include using a future state Value Stream Map to do so. 

 

Typical coachee:   Pillar Leader of Supply Chain Management, Commercial Excellence, or Focused Improvement. 

 

Knowledge needed:    lessons on JIT, Kanban, FIFO, "Why Cycle Times Matter to Meet Takt Time and Lead Times", "The 8 Wastes", "Value Stream Mapping".
