Question 1 of 8

Exercise:  During the Simulation Round, identify the 8 types of waste.  Be able to communicate these with others, teaching and showing others why and how to continuously look for wastes in their work environment.

Ideally for:  Anyone taking the Team Problem Solver program:

Alternatively for:  anyone else.

Lessons to focus on in preparation:  A lesson that covers the 8 types of waste (TIMWOODS).

A

1 - Not interested / Not applicable

B

2 - Somewhat interested / Could lead it if nobody else available

C

3 - I need/want to practice this!

D

4 - I would be willing to coach someone else on this

Question 2 of 8

Exercise:  using the video of the Round 0 Simulation, create and use a Value Stream Map and other concepts learned (OEE, bottlenecks, constraints) to explain the situation/problem to the rest of the team.

Ideally for:  Supply Chain Management Leader or member

Alternatively for: Focused Improvement or Continuous Improvement Leader or member.

Lessons to focus on in preparation:  "Why Bottlenecks and Constraints Matter", "Overall Equipment Effectiveness", "Why Cycle Times Matter to Meet Takt Time and Lead Time", "Value Stream Mapping".

A

1 - Not interested / Not applicable

B

2 - Somewhat interested / Could lead it if nobody else available

C

3 - I need/want to practice this!

D

4 - I would be willing to coach someone else on this

Question 3 of 8

Exercise:  Lead the team to capture the TIMWOODS opportunities identified from Round 0 into the Suggestion/Opportunity System, prioritize them, and then incorporate them into deployment plans.

Ideally for: Any employee

Lessons to focus on in preparation:  "A3 Overview"

A

1 - Not interested / Not applicable

B

2 - Somewhat interested / Could lead it if nobody else available

C

3 - I need/want to practice this!

D

4 - I would be willing to coach someone else on this

Question 4 of 8

Optional Exercise:  If applicable, lead a team through a Quick Changeover project to improve a changeover process.

Ideally for:  Leader or Member of Supply Chain Management, Focused Improvement, Machine Reliability, Autonomous Maintenance, or Commercial Excellence Pillar.

Lessons to focus on in preparation:  "How to Implement Quick Changeover (SMED)", "How to Lead a Kaizen Event".

A

1 - Not interested / Not applicable

B

2 - Somewhat interested / Could lead it if nobody else available

C

3 - I need/want to practice this!

D

4 - I would be willing to coach someone else on this

Question 5 of 8

Exercise: Explain to the team how to come up with potential solutions, how to evaluate them based on impact/effort, how to multi-vote again, and how to develop an action plan for the selected solution.

Ideally for:  Team Problem-Solver, or any Leader.

Lessons to focus on in preparation:  "How to Prioritize Multiple Projects and Initiatives",  "How Poka-Yoke Prevents Mistakes and Defects".

D

4 - I would be willing to coach someone else on this

Question 6 of 8

We will run another simulation round with the improvements made.

Exercise:  In this round, play the role of Tim Woods.  This time focus on excess inventory, and customers wanting their product quicker.

Ideally for:  CS/SMC/CI Pillar Leader or Sub-pillar Leader.

Alternatively for: anyone else.

Lessons to focus on in preparation:  "Why Cycle Times Matter to Meet Takt Time and Lead Times", "The 8 Wastes", "Value Stream Mapping".

C

3 - I need/want to practice this!

D

4 - I would be willing to coach someone else on this

Question 7 of 8

Exercise:  Explain to the team what the opportunity is with reducing excess inventory and when customers want a shorter lead time.  Update and use a the current state Value Stream Map to do so.

Ideally for:  SCM or CE Leader or Member.

Alternatively for:  Champion,  Sponsor, CD, or FI Leader.

Lessons to focus on in preparation:  "Why Cycle Times Matter to Meet Takt Time and Lead Times", "The 8 Wastes", "What is Flow and the Benefits of Reducing Batch Sizes".

3 - I need/want to practice this!

D

4 - I would be willing to coach someone else on this

Question 8 of 8

Exercise:  Identify opportunities to use JIT to reduce lead time or inventory, and lead the team to create an action plan.  Use a future state Value Stream Map to do so.

Ideally for: SCM or CE Leader.
